First Step 团队参加 CFF 5k 步行的第三年 林佳音（英文） 林青青（中文）
从我八岁起，我就把每年买生日礼物的钱捐给囊性纤维化基金会 (CFF) 。我和我的家人每年都参加CFF 一年一度的 Great Strides 5公里步行，支持一个名为 Colin's Commandos 的团队。这是一家朋友为他们的儿子 Colin 发起的，Colin 在 1 岁时被诊断出患有囊性纤维化肺病。

2021 年，我第一次带着自己的团队 First Step 参加了这个筹款活动。我们一共八名学生和父母参加了走路，并筹集了 260 美元。当时是COVID 大流行的高峰期，许多团队决定以虚拟方式在网上进行这次活动。经过多次讨论和精心策划，我的团队终于在河滨公园会面。那是一个阳光明媚的日子，每个人都很高兴见到彼此。我们边走边聊，特别开心，也为提高公众对这个罕见的疾病的认识做出贡献。

2022 年，在中断两年后，基金会决定再次在 Suwanee Town Center 组织步行5公里的活动。这一次我们有19名学生和他们的家长，总共30多人参加，并筹集了500美元。

Since I was eight years old, I have been soliciting donations for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) in lieu of receiving birthday gifts. My family and I participated in the CFF’s annual Great Strides 5k walk with a team called Colin’s Commandos that a family friend started for their son Colin, who was diagnosed cystic fibrosis at age 1.
In 2021, I took my own team, First Step, to this fundraising event for the first time. Eight students and their parents attended and we raised $260. It was the height of the COVID pandemic, and many teams decided to do it virtually. After several discussions and careful planning, my team finally met at the Riverside Park. It was a sunny day, everyone was so excited to see each other, talking and walking, while contributing to raising the awareness of CF.
In 2022, after two years of interruption, the foundation decided to organized the in-person walk again at Suwanee Town Center. We had 19 students and their parents, totaling more than 30 people walked, and we raised $500.
This year (2023), our team doubled again in attendance and donations. With over 80 people attending, we have raised more than $1000, and the amount is still going up. After three years, First Step is honored to be named by CFF as a 65 Roses Champions team!
As the founder and president of the First Step team, and a participant in the CFF Great Strides walk over the past 10 years, it has been a truly inspiring experience to be part of this collective effort with a long tradition. Atlanta has always been the champion city for raising the most money each year. The total amount has exceeded $2 million this year. The foundation has contributed more than $100 million towards CF research over the past few decades, and the first effective drug was approved by FDA in 2019. This is a great example of people coming together to make the world a better place. Come join us next time!
